freebies restaurants

Have a dinner date on the calendar for the weekend? If so, fun! But, don't let a trip out to the restaurant derail your healthy eating plans. The common pitfall that almost every diner makes...

The thing to avoid for the benefit of your health (and waistline) at restaurants? In a word, the freebies!

I caught a Today Show segment where David Zinczenko, author of Eat This, Not That, ran down a scary list of freebies at restaurants and how they have a way of quickly adding up, calorically, to full-fledged meals.

The culprits?

*Bread and oil (or butter)

*Biscuits (think of the cheddar numbers at Red Lobster)

easy recipes

As a mother of two, finding the time to cook a homemade meal sometimes feels like the most impossible task in the world. Whenever I am tempted by frozen dinners or take-out meals, I try to go through a mental list of my favorite quick and easy recipes instead. Quick and easy recipes, in my definition, use readily available ingredients lying around the pantry (nothing too exotic), require little effort, and, most importantly, taste amazing.

If the recipe surpasses those hurdles--and manages to be somewhat healthy, then I definitely know that it's a keeper.

We are blessed with several Intent Voice bloggers who know a thing or two about cooking. Here are some of my favorite quick and easy recipes posted in the past on Intent.com. They also happen to be very good for you as well:

Okay, so you turn into a glutton the instant the Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas goose lands on the table. But don't be too hard on yourself -- scientists say it may all be in the genes.

Research has already shown that we tend to eat 10 percent more, or about 200 calories per day, from October through December. Now scientists at Georgia Tech say the reason could be genetic, nature's way of forcing us to build up our fat reserves for the winter months.

"We schedule Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays at this time because this is when we want to overeat," says researcher Dr. Juan de Castro. He based his conclusions on a study of more than 250 pairs of twins who lived and ate apart, which indicated genetics affected all aspects of eating behavior.

Zoladex

Generic Name: goserelin (GOE se REL in)

Brand Names: Zoladex

What is Zoladex?

Zoladex (goserelin) is a man-made form of a hormone that regulates many processes in the body. Zoladex overstimulates the body's own production of certain hormones, which causes that production to shut down temporarily.

Zoladex is used in men to treat symptoms of prostate cancer, and in women to treat breast cancer or endometriosis. It is also used in women to prepare the lining of the uterus for endometrial ablation (a surgery to correct abnormal uterine bleeding).

If you are receiving Zoladex to treat prostate cancer, use any other medications your doctor has prescribed to best treat your condition. Goserelin treats only the symptoms of prostate cancer but does not treat the cancer itself.
